WHAT IS A PUGGLE?
If you are here looking for a puggle, then you probably already know! A puggle is a hybrid dog produced by mating a beagle with a pug.
IS IT TRUE THAT PUGGLES ARE GENERALLY HEALTHIER DOGS?
Yes, this is true. I too have fallen victim to overpaying for a puppy at a pet store. Her name was Cookie, at the age of 2 she took 3rd place in the American Kennel Club Show in Columbus, Oh. With a promising show vocation, and a smart loving baby, Cookie was completely blind by the age of 3 and deaf by the age of 5. She lived to be 21 years old, which I attribute to the care she received from my family. Why is it so common for these pricey, full blooded animals to be exceptionally prone to genetic illnesses - because of what breeders of champion bloodlines and such like to refer to as "Line Breeding." Line breeding is a fancy term for INBREEDING. We all know that inbreeding is bad, females from a litter will then be bred back to a father, with a claim that this is in pursuit of bringing out the best qualities in a breed. Bad, bad, bad! Inbred populations have lower fitness and higher genetic disorders. This has given us a plethora of adorable pets fated with weak and recessive genes/traits resulting from dollar inspired breeding programs. With each litter, these genetic defects become more prevaliant and continue to be passed on through generations.
Welcome to the world of HYBRID VIGOR!
Just when mankind finds a way to really mess things up, Mother Nature steps up to the plate and tries to fix it. Hybrid vigor is the increased superior qualities arising from the crossbreeding of genetically different plants or animals. Hybrid vigor formulates the reversal of inbreeding. Weak genes that may be carried by a parent will be overridden by the stronger, more favorable dominant alleles in the other parent, resulting in a hybrid baby with a much greater biochemical diversity and the strongest traits.
I have spent a great deal of time studying the phenomena of Hybrid Vigor in pursuit of my 2 degrees in Biological Sciences. I grew up with horses, donkeys, and the hybrid cross of the two, mules! We also have hybrid Isa Brown chickens and cattle here on our farm. Hybrid vigor is used in breeding programs for food (like fruits and vegetables) for high yeild and quality.
Unfortunately, the hybrid vigor extends only through the first generation (I am sorry to say it, but puggle to puggle crosses do not possess the genetic hardiness as first generation puggles).
Babies were born on March 12, 2009 - the babies are weened and ready to be somebody's new snuggle bunny! Everybody says the babies look bigger in the photos than they do in person.
First generation puggles, born to Rambo and Jeep. They will be fawn in color and should lighten up to look like their daddy. Jeep is 2 years old and this is her first litter, she will not be bred again for at least another year, she is such a good mommy that she deserves a nice, long, vacation.
We snuggle the puggles daily, that's a fact! So they should be super affectionate. They will have complete worming and vaccinations record, a chew toy and blankey for the trip home.
FYI- An interesting fact, if you've done your homework on puggles, then you may be aware that the man who is credited with 'inventing' the puggle breed is named Wallace Havens. My husband's name is Haven Wallace, what a coincidence! Also, Sylvester Stallone is the proud owner of a Wallace Havens puggle - I did not know this when we got his namesake pug! I've also heard that "Tony Soprano" and Uma Thurman are puggle parents.

It's a Puggle Party!
These photos were taken the weekend of April 18th. We took a trip to Reno, Ohio to visit the puggles' proclaimed grandparents (my mom and dad).
These are the 4 girls...
Below are 3 of the baby boys, 2 of them are available, the one in the back is the boy in the video that was teaching the orange squeaky toy a lesson, the one on the far right is also available. Photo taken on April 26th.
